Wines of The Week

2008 Falanghina Rami, Di Majo Norante, Molise, Italy
£5.00,175ml glass, £13.70500ml Carafe £20Bt
The Falanghina makes scented nutty wine with a deep golden colour & pungent nose dominated by rich stone fruit reminiscent of blustery days on the coast. Full & expressive with lovely almondy, honey aftertaste

2008 Negroamaro del Salento, La Casada, Puglia, Italy
£4.15175ml glass, £11500ml Carafe £16.50Bt
When one thinks of Negroamaro, a vinous version of Valhrona-shocked espresso springs to mind. This is not such a wine. Where you expect bitterness there is softness. The characteristic ‘scorched earth’ quality is also absent. The wine is pleasant, round and just peppery enough to remind one of its Mediterranean origins.

£4.65 175ml glass, £12.50 500ml Carafe
Typically floral with gentle apple and almond fruit. Plenty of finesse with a warm, mineral finish of depth of flavour.

2008 Marcillac ‘Lo Sang del Païs’, Domaine du Cros, SW France
£4.75 175ml glass, £12.70 500ml Carafe
Marcillac is a tiny obscure appellation near Clairvaux in Aveyron comprising some eight growers. Made from the Mansois grape this is quite supple with juicy raspberry flavours underpinned by slate and gravel notes.
